A YouTube button has been added to the message editing toolbar in the forums:

To see it you may need to enable the "Enhanced Interface" feature in your User Control Panel if you haven't already. To get to this, navigate to your User CP, then go to Edit Options, and scroll down to the Miscellaneous Options section. There you should have a drop-down control where you can select the option that says Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing. Choose that, and then click the Save Changes button at the bottom.

And again, to embed a YouTube video, all you need is the ID code for the video, found at the end of the link URL that you'd normally use. If you want to use the toolbar, just paste the ID code into the text window, select it, and click the YouTube button; or, to do it manually, just place the ID code within [youtube] tags. For example, if a video is located at this page:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8bIEk58LzI

then simply add this to your post: [youtube]h8bIEk58LzI[/youtube]

And in your post it will look like this:

Very cool man.

How did you add that to the menu bar?

vB Admin > Custom BB Codes > BB Code Manager > (your custom BB code): Edit > "Button Image (Optional)"

add the URL to an image hosted on your site into that field.

I prefer that clip with the UT announcer. lol.
I think it was posted here about the time the movie
came out. But I'm too lazy to go looking for it.

Update to the YouTube tags:
  • User preference for displaying embedded videos:
Each user can choose whether they want YouTube embeds to be displayed on each page or whether they prefer to have just a link.

UserCP > Edit Options > Thread Display Options > Display Embedded Videos

The "Embedded - Collapsed" is a sort of hybrid option that can help keep clutter down: videos are initially displayed as an expandable link, and clicking on View Embedded causes the link to be converted into an embedded video.

  • Easier embedding for posters:
Now you can just paste (almost) any URL that points to a YouTube video, select it and hit the YouTube button in the toolbar. No more having to clip out the ID code for the video.

For example, here's how to embed the Google conspiracy video posted a little while ago:
[youtube]http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=_GzA9Xu_oEo&feature=related[/youtube]

Known issues:
  • Doing an in-page edit of a post will cause the video to disappear. It's still there, just do a quick page refresh.
  • Firefox users may have trouble getting the controls to work on the embedded video player.
You might need to do a hard refresh once, anywhere on the website, to make sure it works ok. Please feed back and let me know if anything doesn't work properly, or could work better.

Does this work ok? I remember some funny bug with it but I don't see any problems anymore. I don't remember fixing it, though maybe I did, lol in my sleep or something. Anyone else still have issues?

I don't trust it so I use the links, but I think it works most of the time.
