Well guys I went and did it....I enlisted in the Army National Guard...So some time in the next month or so I will be gone for awhile, 9 weeks for basic and Ill come home for a few days then 16 weeks for AIT, heres the kicker right around the time Im done with all that is when the next deployment for overseas is..WooHoo ..

I was kicking around becoming a coastie about a year ago. Its definitely a life changing experience. I think I told you this, but FUBAR (Patrick) did this when 9/11 happened and he rolled straight through Iraq to Baghdad. As ****ty conditions as it is, he talks about how he loved it all the time.

Cool shizz man. If I did something like this, I'd have to be a gunner on an apache or something. Firing those cannons would give me a permaboner.

Also, I have heard through the grapevine that the drillies are trying to portray a "friendlier army" where they are not 100% dick heads and try to be a mentor in addition to your CO. Let me know how that works out.

Finally, I don't know if this is the case, but don't get caught smoking and wear 3 undershirts at your graduation. Pat had to stand there with his pin backs off of his dress and let everyone pound them into his chest.

Very nice and congrats! I'm way too old to enlist, but always thought I should work in publications/journalism areas for the army. Perfect for spinning that "friendlier army" thing.

Coincidentally, things have gotten so bad at my current job, I had a fellow manager quit and reenlist today, saying that dodging bullets in Afghanistan would be better than this place...

well, i dont know to say "Congrats" or "WTF were you thinking??" ....

just make sure to remember that they cant eat you - so no matter how much yelling they do at you - they cant kill you. all you have to do is keep trying. they dont care if you cant do 100 pushups as long as you try to do 100 pushups ... and no matter what you do - dont ever quit. they want you to and will come down on you like a ton of bricks .... keep your chin up and keep your head down. we dont want you getting shot in real life ....

btw , what is your MOS ... mine was 65B.

Thanks Guys...I think it will be awsum and Redbear my mos will be 91b most likely, but I did score high on my asvab's so I was told I can kinda pick and choose my mos, but we'll see...Im new to all this stuff so Im learning as I go. My dad was prior service but we dont talk much...But I think it will be great for me...my youngest daughter is kinda sad and worried about daddy but hopefully she will be fine..

Supposedly you even get a "time out" card in basic now, so if they are yelling at you too much you can whip out the card to get them to stop. At least in the Air Force.

I kind of always wished I joined. Guess I will have to settle for the SORT(Prison SWAT) team as a correctional officer.
