Thanks bro but i have all the tools i need. Plus i couldn't legally even use the academic version if i were to get it for free. Those limited licenses usually stipulate that only non-pros may legally install them. How they were received/bought ends up being moot.

There are a few budding programmers here though so i'm sure somebody could get good use out of it... Thanks for passing it on!

I've been using VS 2010 since Microsoft released it at MIX10 and overall it's great. Intellisense is ok I suppose. I don't notice much difference between 2010 and 2008. My favorite feature is that Team Foundation Server is built into the shell as opposed to having to install it separately with 2008.

You can also write your own VS UI controls much easier in 2010. The Silverlight 4 stuff is a big plus as well.

VS2010 is great.. I like that you can drag the windows onto different monitors.

Also, ReSharper is a must for all professionals out there.

Yeah, I like being able to float a code behind file next to the UI code. That's a feature that should have been put in a long time ago.

Resharper is definitely a must have if you plan on doing it for anything more than hobby.

If you get into any WPF or Silverlight, Snoop is a life saver for debugging.

The more I use this program, the more I have mixed feelings about it.

If you're not working with WPF or Silverlight, it runs great. If you are, it can't figure out what it wants to do half the time.

The biggest problem is that while working in your XAML, VS is compiling the XAML code in real time for error checking, IntelliSense, and so on. I understand that it's needed, but it will literally lock the UI up all the time.

If you're working with paths that have a decent amount of point data and try to paste it in the text editor, you can expect to wait a couple of minutes while Visual Studio figures out what it wants to do with the text.

I did just find a neat short cut the other day. If you need to use something thats in a namespace that you have not referenced in your code, you can just start typing like you have it referenced, then hit Ctrl + . to bring a prompt up for adding the missing namespace reference and then click to automatically add it.

So, bottom line is that unless they release a patch, you're better off working in Blend if you need WPF or Silverlight of any kind because the IDE performs horribly for some reason.
